Biovanta is a breakthrough new treatment for cold, cough and sore throat. Unlike leading OTC products on the market, Biovanta works by targeting the upper respiratory inflammation that causes the symptoms.

The active ingredient in Biovanta is ultra-low dose acetylsalicylic acid (commonly known as aspirin), but at a very small dosage (6 mg) compared to even baby aspirin, which contains 81mg. Our aspirin is derived from plants using a proprietary technology. Biovanta also contains lactoferrin and lysozyme, which are powerful anti-inflammatory molecules naturally present in mucus, and added to help bolster your body’s natural immunity. How is aspirin beneficial in such a small dose? And why is it not beneficial in larger doses?

Aspirin can lower prostaglandin levels (a measure of inflammation) but at too high a dose it can disrupt the body’s balance. We found, there is a small therapeutic window in which aspirin is anti-inflammatory: 6 mg per dose. Below this level, the drug would not have a significant affect and above it, it becomes inflammatory. For comparison, a baby aspirin contains 81 mg. Aspirin is known to damage the stomach lining in higher doses. This is probably why it also damages the respiratory lining in higher doses.

How does Biovanta work differently than other OTC Cough/Cold/Sore Throat products?

Upper respiratory infection that causes cough and sore throat is caused by inflammation of the pharynx, the area between your tonsils and your voice box. When respiratory viruses infect the pharynx, they inflame the area. The active ingredients of most leading cough, cold and sore throat products may mask symptoms for a short period of time, but actually worsen inflammation and may therefore exacerbate and prolong the illness. Biovanta is the only cough, cold and sore throat product that safely and effectively addresses the upper respiratory inflammation that causes cold symptoms.

Does Biovanta contain alcohol?

The Biovanta lozenges do not contain alcohol. The Biovanta spray contains alcohol, but a minimal amount and only from natural sources. Alcohol is produced naturally in many food products.

Does Biovanta contain sugar?

No. All Biovanta products are sugar-free. The lozenges contain isomalt, a plant-based sweetener.

Do your products contain wheat or gluten?

Biovanta does not contain wheat or gluten products.

Do your products contain shellfish?

Biovanta does not contain shelfish.

Do your products contain dairy or eggs?

Yes, Biovanta contains lactoferrin isolated from milk and isolated from egg whites.

Is Biovanta safe to use past its expiration date?

While Biovanta may still be effective past its tested shelf life we do not advise using it after its expiration date.

Is Biovanta tested on animals?

No. We have intentionally avoided any animal testing. Applied Biological Laboratories is committed to conservation and we strive to minimize our negative impact on the environment.

Is Biovanta safe to use while pregnant or breast feeding?

Always ask your healthcare provider before use. It is especially important not to use aspirin during the last 3 months of pregnancy unless directed to do so by a doctor.

How often can I take Biovanta?

Spray: apply as needed—no more than once every 30 minutes or as directed by health care provider Lozenges: dissolve 1 lozenge slowly in mouth; repeat every 30 minutes or as directed by health care provider.

Is it safe to give Biovanta to my children?

Children under 6 should not use the Biovanta lozenges due to the risk of choking. Reye's syndrome: Children and teenagers who have or are recovering from chicken pox or flu-like symptoms should not use this product. When using this product, if changes in behavior with nausea and vomiting occur, consult a doctor because these symptoms could be an early sign of Reye's syndrome, a rare but serious illness.

Are there any side effects associated with taking Biovanta?

Individuals may have allergic reactions to individual ingredients in Biovanta, including the acetylsalicylic acid, which is an NSAID, lactoferrin which is extracted from milk, and lysozyme which is extracted from eggs.
